Trout Fishing Weekend

As our annual 3-day trout fishing extravaganza approaches, the e-mail traffic is fast and furious. Just received a message from our party chief, addressed to our seven-man party, that reads in part: Meals: ยท Thursday supper = charcoal planked salmon with salad, barbecued potatoes, fiddleheads au vin...

If you look carefully to the right upper corner, you can see where a trout just broke the surface.

Boat Supplies

In the past week, I have purchased 150 feet of anchor rope, five 5lb navy anchors, one 10lb navy anchor, two new sets of oars, four pair of oar collars and ten cleats to re-outfit our fleet of five regular and two reserve boats, split between our club's two lakes. We want to be sure that everything ...

Re: New Rod and Reel

Whenever I go to our club's trout lakes, I take four rods - I have accumulated seven trout (fly) rods over the years and a bunch of spare spools. Two are rigged with wet flies and two with dries. In theory, two are for a guest, but half the time I go by myself. On Saturday morning I started fishing ...

Crown Reserve Draw Results

Friday was a big day for us here in NB, as the results of the Crown Reserve lottery were announced. This is a system whereby the government offers stretches of prime salmon water to groups of NB residents for 48 hour trips. Our party was successful in being drawn for the Depot stretch on the NW Mira...

Ice Fishing

Although the ice is breaking up here in NB, our neighbours in Maine are still hard water fishing. Thought that the following (slighly off colour) vignettes might be enjoyed by all: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Bk8g3pOvTTQ&feature=channel abd http://www.youtube.com/watch...

Re: WW Doak Miramichi River NB

On my way to the NW Miramichi on Friday to the limits of salmon fishing. Will be stopping at Doak's but the real destination shop is the Trout Brook Fly Shop on the banks of the NW. Syd has all the news and his flies are the real thing - not the soul-less mass produced ones that you get at Doaks. Bu...

Re: Finding Fly Fishing Water

Robert

I belong to a small private trout club outside Saint John NB. Founded 80 years ago we have two small lakes, an old camp and a boathouse. Rowboats and fly fishing only. Very swish, our annual dues are $250. The caretaker for approx 50 years was Don McFarlane - maybe a relation?
